James Joyce, the 'great shem', was the father of modern literature and in his masterpiece Ulysses (1921) he changed the content and the structure of writing for ever. With his thick orb like glasses he poured over his word-play and stream of consciousness narratives to bring to life forever the international significance of ordinary Dublin. His genius is still celebrated every year on Bloomsday.
James Joyce was born in 23 Castlewood ave, Rathmines, Dublin, Ireland. He was initially educated at Clongowes Wood College and after graduating from UCD in 1903, Joyce left for Paris. On 7 January 1904, he wrote A Portrait of the Artist, and inn 1904 Joyce settled in Trieste with Nora Barnacle Joyce moved to Paris in 1920, and stayed there for twenty years. He died in Zurich of peritonitis on 13th January 1941.
