Information and Guide to Anglo-Irish writer Samuel Beckett
created and maintained in Dublin, Ireland
Introduction
Hi and welcome to my website
I studied Samuel Beckett in college and ended up doing my Masters on his work. I might put my thesis up here one day but I might have to move the site off this server first. My thesis was on the idea of language as a corrosive substance and how Beckett both highlighted and fought against this. Anyway, they gave me a MA. Next, I got interested in IT and this site is a result of that interest. It is both a work in progress and a prototype for where I want it to go.
Site Information
The site is hosted on the DIT server (here), the Dublin Institute of Technology, where I am a student of IT. It runs on PHP with MySql on a Debian Sarge server, I used to have the versions displayed but didn't want to open the server to PHP exploits. The site was started in 2005 as an opportunity for me to learn PHP and Apache mod-rewrites and the only topic I knew enough content about was Samuel Beckett. This site was also an attempt by me to enter the world of SEO, which I have yet to fully get to grips with. A by-product of this site was my work in graphics which I have had to get more into in order to design and present the site, but I still have a lot to learn about CSS and HTML.
